Joachem Wouterszen arrived in New Amsterdam(New York City) on the ship “The FAITH” in 1662. It is believed that he was born C1637. He and Styntje had 3 children baptised in the DRC between 1679 and 1686. Joachem and Styntje appear as members of the DRC as early as 1676 and are not seen in the records again until after 1716.

“The present Van Wart family in America had for their known progenitor Woulterse or Woulterszen.
He was the son of “Walter” as his name indicates, Jocfhem and Jacob being synonymous…… he
might have been Jacob Wouter from Ansterdam, Netherlands who came to New Amsterdam (New York City) on the “Faith” arriving March 1660. (Ref.-H.S.-Vol 9) (Ref.-Doc.Hist.,N.Y.,-vol. “One Authority
claims that Jacob Woultersens’s father came from Goudaand settled in Flushing and Midwout (Long Island, N.Y.) adn assumed…..when surnames became popular,–the name of van Gouda and later
Van Wert in the Netherlands” van Weert signifies a low lying marsh country which might decribe the
country in Holland or Long Island. Hence, he was spoken of as from the city of “Gouda, Netherlands.
However, the son of Jochem Woulterse was supposed to have been from Netherlands. (Ref.-N.Y. Gen. Biog. Record-yr. 1928). From the above reference one may assume that the original Van Weert
family from Jochem or Jacob Van Weert described abouve and that through the year sdescendants
have modified (intentionally or unintertionally) the name into spellings Ie>Van Wart: Wan Wert, and
others. However, be mislead by this short history and ALL immigrants using this name are of this
Van Weert family.
